Policies for Exercise Innovations, Inc., DBA Weightlifting Workshop

Protecting Athletes and Their Information

The Weightlifting Workshop, and its charitable affiliate, Weightlifting.Org, are especially concerned about the protection of young athletes from sexual abuse, bullying and other forms of abuse or harassment. Consequently, we adhere to strict policies with regard to coaching and communicating with athletes under the age of 18. First, we will not knowingly communicate with athletes under the age of 18 unless a parent or guardian (PG) is part of the communication. So athletes who wish to text, e-mail or phone us must include a PG in the process. We do not knowingly collect an Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 18, without PG consent. If you think your child may have provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will work to remove such information from our records, unless you instruct us to do otherwise in writing. In general, we encourage PGs to observe, participate in, and monitor/guide any online activity by their children.

Second, during any coaching at our facility, athletes and coaches are in full view by everyone present at all times (except when an athlete goes to the restroom – and there are only two restrooms – each private). There are no locker rooms, showers, or other rooms where people can gather outside the view of the main gym floor (athletes may change their clothes in either private bathroom).

Third, athletes under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a PG if they are training alone with a coach, or they must provide written consent of such training, which can be revoked at any time.

A great resource for parents and guardians who wish to protect their children who are involved in sport is the U.S. Center for Safesport at uscenterforsafesport.org. The have many materials of their own design, as well as links to other information sources, on their site. In addition, the Federal government, state governments and local governments may also offer useful information in this connection.

More generally, we will not tolerate any form of bullying, harassment, discrimination or similar behaviors at our facility, or virtually. Members engaging in such behaviors are subject to immediate termination. Our focus is on providing a respectful and supportive environment at all times.
