LET US HELP YOU BECOME THE LIFTER YOU WANT TO BE - THROUGH VIRTUAL COACHING
Kate – has trained with us virtually for several consecutive years and is one of our most diligent lifters
OUR APPROACH TO VIRTUAL COACHING
While we think live coaching, and training with other like-minded athletes, offers the ideal environment for most athletes to develop, we believe that with today’s technology virtual coaching can be highly effective as well.
How does our virtual coaching work? The process we use is somewhat different for those with Weightlifting experience versus those who are new to the sport. In either case it all starts with getting to know you.
If you are an experienced lifter, we’ll want to see some videos of your lifting. We’ll ask you about such things as your training history, your short and long range goals, what you are happiest about in your career, what concerns you may have and what you have done so far to address them, and how much training time you have available.
On the basis of this information, we’ll suggest one or more elements of technical skill, strength, power and/or flexibility that offer the greatest potential for improving your performance. Once we agree on the right areas of focus, we’ll devise a program for you and work with you to provide the kind of feedback you’ll need. We’ll make sure you know exactly how to do each exercise in your program through video examples, and instructions that explain how to do the exercises and why you are doing them. Even experienced lifters will likely have some new exercises prescribed, or at least new ways to arrange for better feedback regarding the exercises they are already familiar with. Finally, we’ll teach you about any mental processes you need to master to move ahead most effectively.
After that we’ll monitor your training through weekly videos you will send us, along with your training records (we’ll provide a tool for capturing those) and through a weekly e-mail exchange, We’ll provide feedback on what you have accomplished and what you should be focusing on in the coming week, making any necessary program modifications. Finally, we’ll jointly evaluate your progress over the course of the plan, you carried out, in order to set new goals and to begin a new training cycle.
We’ll begin by learning about your athletic and fitness background (if any), and provide you with instructions for testing your flexibility in areas related to weightlifting technique. Then you can send us a video showing your results. Finally, we’ll want to learn about your short and long range goals, and how much training time you have and when. At this point we can give you our initial thoughts on a training plan, and if we agree to work together, we’ll create a training program for the next several weeks, listen to your feedback on the plan, then arrive at a mutually agreed approach for moving forward.
Initially, the emphasis will be on your performing very simple exercises which will lay the foundation for developing superior technique. We’ll provide videos of each exercise, along with written instructions on the why you are doing it and how it should be performed. We’ll suggest ways of obtaining feedback, to help assure you are performing those exercises correctly. And only when you have mastered these foundational exercises will you move on to more complex and challenging ones. Although weightlifting is an inherently one of the safest of all strenuous sports, we’ll also teach you the basics of safe lifting – such as how to miss and how to use a squat rack.
Then we’ll monitor your training through weekly videos you will send us, along with your training records (we’ll provide a tool for capturing those) and through a weekly e-mail exchange We’ll provide feedback on what you have accomplished and what you should be focusing on in the coming week, making any necessary program modifications. Finally, we’ll help you evaluate your progress over the course of the training cycle and help you to set new goals for your next training cycle.
